U.S. EPA Sensitive Population Grant for the City of Baltimore, the City of Annapolis, the Maryland Department of the Environment and Montgomery County

In December 2004, the U.S. EPA awarded the sum of $75,000 to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) for the implementation of a project that will reduce emissions from emergency vehicles operating near sensitive populations. MDE also contributed $25,000 to give this project a total of $100,000 in funding. These funds were issued to the City of Baltimore, the City of Annapolis, MDE, and Montgomery County. These retrofits resulted in the following annual emissions reductions: 30.8 tons of CO, 3.25 tons of HC, and 0.075 tons of PM.
City of Baltimore

Retrofitted Diesel Oxidation catalysts (DOCs) on 49 fire department vehicles.

The retrofits were completed in September 2006.

These retrofits will result in the following annual emissions reductions: 18.9 tons of CO, 1.99 tons of HC, and 0.046 tons of PM.
City of Annapolis Fire Department

Retrofitted DOCs on 9 fire emergency and rescue vehicles.

Retrofits were completed in April 2007.

These retrofits will result in the following annual emissions reductions: 1.3 tons of CO, 0.14 tons of HC, and 0.003 tons of PM.
MDE Emergency Response

Retrofitted DOCs on 6 emergency spill response vehicles.

Retrofits were completed in April 2007.

These retrofits will result in the following annual emissions reductions: 1.4 tons of CO, 0.15 tons of HC, and 0.003 tons of PM.
Montgomery County

Retrofitted DOCs on 11 Montgomery County Fire Department vehicles.

Retrofitted DOCs on 7 Montgomery County dump trucks.

Retrofits were completed in May 2007.

These retrofits will result in the following annual emissions reductions: 9.2 tons of CO, 1.02 tons of HC, and 0.024 tons of PM.
