This site highlights the activities of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change and the work the Department is doing to address the State’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Maryland and preparing State and local governments as well as residents to prepare for the likely impacts of climate change in Maryland, including establishing goals and timetables for implementation.

The Corsica River Initiative is nationally recognized for its Watershed Plan and restoration effort that coninues to receive attention for its outstanding contributions in research, monitoring and implementation.

MDE’s Emergency Response Division (ERD) prepares for and responds to emergencies involving oil and hazardous chemical spills, nuclear power plant incidents, and other environmental crises. ERD exists to protect public safety and the environment through careful planning, training, and expert application of emergency response mechanisms to minimize impacts on human health and the environment.

Every day in Maryland thousands of individuals work with substances which are potentially harmful to our environment. When proper care fails and accidents happen, the Maryland Department of the Environment's Emergency Response Team is called into action.

The PIA process, which includes an improved internal tracking system, consistent procedures and fee structure agency-wide, includes acceptance of information requests via electronic mail.
