Onsite Systems Training

​Maryland Department of the Environment offers training through the Onsite Systems Division. Listed below are some of the courses and their application forms that the Department offers throughout the year.

  • Sand Mound Installer Course - Upon completion of this course an individual will be approved to construct sand mound sewage disposal systems in the State of Maryland. This course is 7.5 hours and covers design, permitting and construction standards. Passing a written examination is required for certification.
  • At Grade Installer Course - Upon completion of this course an individual will be approved to construct at-grade mound sewage disposal systems in the State of Maryland. This course is 7.5 hours and covers design, permitting and construction standards. Passing a written examination is required for certification.​
  • Sand Mound Installer Refresher Course - This course is 3.5 hours and offers up-to-date information regarding sand mound construction. No examination is required. This course is only available for contractors who have previously taken and passed the sand mound construction course over 5 years ago and are obtaining re-certification.
  • At Grade Installer Refresher Course - This course is 3.5 hours and offers up-to-date information regarding at grade mound construction. No examination is required. This course is only available for contractors who have previously taken and passed the at grade installer course over 5 years ago and are obtaining re-certification.​
  • BAT Installer Course - Upon completion of this course and certification by respective technology manufacturers, an individual will be certified to install BAT systems in the State of Maryland. The course is 4 hours in length and requires passing a written examination for certification. Please note local installation requirements may also be necessary.
